WineScores' Review

Chateau Du Glana is located on the Route des Grands Vins running parallel to the Gironde estuary, between the towns of Beychevelle and Saint~Julien. Constructed in 1870 with a mere 5-hectare vineyard of gravelly soil it was consolidated thanks to the purchase of several plots of land from neighbouring Chateau Saint-Pierre.
After several other owners, Gabriel Meffre bought Chateau Du Glana in 1961. He increased the vineyard to 43 hectares in the following years by acquiring several additional plots.
Helped by his young sons Ludovic and Julien, Jean~Paul Meffre now looks after the estate. They are motivated by a major ambition: to achieve the estate's full potential.
Surrounded by some of finest great growths in the Medoc, Chateau Du Glana has made tremendous strides in quality since 1999 including an entirely renovated vineyard and all the estate's buildings. They aim to produce modern elegant wines reflecting the estate's terroir.
Showing its roots in Garonne gravels, the 2017 has fractionally more Cabernet Sauvignon than Merlot and suggests a fleshy nose with pretty floral and sweet red fruit (think red cherry and currents) aromas, pipe tobacco and an earthy spice. Still youthful it has a silky entry and an attractive suppleness that reveals a firm structure woven with freshness on the palate. It's a lovely wine that melds together on the tongue but will benefit from some time in cellar; if you can't wait, feel free to decant.

WineDiva.ca was launched prior to WineScores, in February 2004. WineDiva is the alter ego of Daenna Van Mulligen. She wears a cork tiara and is proof that a girl can have her w(h)ine and drink it too! WineDiva.ca is a tongue-in-cheek approach to a very serious passion for all things wine. WineDiva’s goal is to make wine fun, subtly educational & deviously inspirational. Vintage reciting wine snobs need not apply. WineDiva is painting the wine world pink and drinking it all in, and her glass is always (at least) half-full.

WineScores is the more serious follow up to WineDiva.ca. WineScores was born from the demand to see wine writer Daenna Van Mulligen provide scores on her wine reviews. These are numerical scores based on a 100 point scale – an internationally recognized form of rating wines. These numbers provide a snapshot for consumers on how the wine reviewer views the overall quality of the wine. For more information on scoring wine, go to “about”.
